    Sailing (sample Cape Horn)

All the explorer's logbooks mention the dangers of these
regions, but very few mention their charms....   It is only
after the arrival of strong boats and good knowledge of the
places that eyes and spirits have been able to feel their unique splendor and to describe amazing landscapes, unexpected
    flora and innumerable wildlife...

A sailing boat, if well adapted to the austral navigation, allows a privileged approach to these places inaccessible by other
means.  She can receive only restricted groups where everyone is part of the crew but can also isolate himself to enjoy the
fabulous sensation of pureness that the South still offers.

On board Le Sourire, a secure and spacious sailing boat built for cold seas, we invite you to undertake the voyage..

    The boat:
Le Sourire ( The Smile in English) was the name of a small newspaper written by painter Paul Gauguin while he was living
    in Tahiti.
Le Sourire is a sailing yacht built by the META FRANCE shipyards in 1988 and refurbished in 2000.
Her hull is made of Strongall aluminium. She has a lifting keel to enter into shallow anchorage, two powerful engines and a
salon with outside viewing to enjoy the beautiful landscape even while staying inside protected from the cold and the wind.

Tierra del Fuego - Cape Horn:
Fireland is a huge archipelago with thousands of islands at the southern end of the South American continent. It is nowadays
one of the rare easily accessible places approachable only by boat, where the sovereign Nature unveils beautiful and
    undamaged landscapes.
Fireland is shared between Chile and Argentina. On the map, only a few small inhabited centers can be seen.
We'll leave them behind to try to imagine the former sailor's emotions on rounding Cape Horn, or to enter the fabulous labyrinth
of islands, mountains and channels that Fireland offers.

    Landscapes:
Fireland is the end of the Andes range. It is a conjunction of desert patagonian plains, fjords entering between snowy
mountains that emerge from the sea, barren vegetation of the Wollaston islands near Cape Horn and the dense forests
bordering the twinkling glaciers in the channels.

    Wildlife:
Sea lions and dolphins swim around the boat under the wings of the albatross, petrels and shags. Walking ashore, condors
and guanacos watch the hiker's steps approaching the beavers' dams.

    Some history:
Magellan discovered Fireland in 1520 while looking for a path westward to the route of the spices. Today, the Indians who
then inhabited the plains, the forests and the coasts of Fireland have all disappeared, victims of the arrival of the white man:
sealers, gold seekers, sheep breeders, missionaries and the first settlers.
