Moroccan Splendor This tour of Morocco will give you all the splendor of Morocco, but without the active part that our Eclectic Morocco Itinerary entails. If you'd like to visit the Imperials Cities, but still have a village experience, Sahara camel trek, and do some light hiking in the Dades Gorge, then this tour would be just the right pick. Tour: Day 1: Begin Morocco Tour in Rabat You have the full day to explore the capital city of Rabat. You can wander around on your own or accompany the tour leader to the Chellah Gardens in the morning, and walk through the medina to the Kasbah des Oudayas fortress overlooking the Bouregreg River and Atlantic Ocean in the afternoon. At night you can take a walk around the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, which is one minute from the hotel. Day 2: Meknes / Moulay Idriss / Volubilis After spending the morning taking in the sites in Meknes, we will head to the sacred town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, grandson of the prophet Mohammed and first Arab leader of Morocco. The town has an interesting history since non-Muslims weren't allowed to enter at one time. However, we will be spending the night here! Five minutes away is the ancient Roman City of Volubilis, where we will roam amidst the ruins and watch the sun set. Day 3: Fez In Fez, we will be staying in the old medina, which is a World Heritage site and one of the oldest and still thriving medieval cities in the world! You can spend the day taking a guided tour with our Moroccan guide, who will show you all the historical and cultural sites of this Imperial City, such as the Kairouine Mosque, spice market, tanneries and leather market, pottery quarter, henna market, woodcrafters, metal workers, and Koranic schools. Be prepared for an enjoyable lesson in Fez History. Day 4: Ziz Valley In the morning, we will pass through the quaint little town of Ifrane in the heart of the Middle Atlas Mountains surrounded by cedar forests filled with Barbary apes, stop for lunch, then continue towards Errachidia in the south of Morocco. It will take us about six hours. Tonight is special because we will be staying in a small oasis village nestled in the fertile Tafilalet region of the Ziz Valley filled with date palm trees. You will be able to meet the families of the area who live and work here. And, if available, we will have a Berber Band Bash with an internationally renowned artist. Day 5: Merzouga & Sahara Desert Camel Trek Today, we'll awake in the Ziz Valley, have breakfast, and be able to hike around with our good friend and Ziz Valley guide, Abdelkarim. In the afternoon, we'll be heading past Erfoudinto the Sahara Desert for our camel trek. The drive to the desert is about 2.5 hours. Along the way, we will stop for lunch. Once in Merzouga, we will venture inward atop camels into the Sahara Desert, have dinner amongst the dunes and under the stars, and stay in a Bedouin tent for the night. Day 6: Todra Gorge & Dades Gorge If group members would like to rock climb the Todra Gorge, we will stop here, get fitted for gear and join our certified climbing guide who will literally show us the ropes! Other members can hike around the area. If members do not want to rock climb, then we can go straight to the Dades Gorge, enjoy the scenery, and take a hike. The rock formations are said to resemble monkey paws. We will be spending the night in the Dades Gorge overlooking the canyon. Day 7: Ouarzazate / Ait Ben Haddou / Marrakesh This morning we will be driving through Ouarzazate followed by visiting the UNESCO World Heritage site and famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, where we can stop for lunch. The drive from Ait Ben Haddou to Marrakesh will take us about 4 hours. We will be staying in the old medina, also a World Heritage Site. Tonight you can go to the lively Jemaa el Fna Square to watch the circus-like performers and sample some tasty delights at different stalls. Day 8: Marrakesh Today, you have the whole day in lively Marrakesh. You might visit the Koubba Baadiyn and the historical Ali ben Youssef Medersa, a Koranic School, or the Badii & Bahia Palaces and the Saadian Tombs. Day 9: Marrakesh You have another full day in exotic Marrakesh. Menara Gardens. You can walk through the souk (covered market) and look at all the wares and souvenirs you can bargain for. Then in the afternoon, you can take a walk over to the tranquil Menara Gardens. Day 10: Marrakesh. Depart. |
