On a shoestring

This unique trip concentrates on the south of Morocco and includes
a trek up Mount Toubkal in the High Atlas Mountains. On this tour,
we will be staying in budget accommodations.
Designed for those who want to travel in a group, have a well-planned itinerary, and who want a budget holiday in Morocco
that is both active and cultural, this trip is the perfect choice. The itinerary culminates in the laid-back beach town of Essaouira.

    Tour:

Day 1: Begin Morocco Tour in Marrakesh
In Marrakesh, we will be staying in a hotel located right near the famous Jemma el Fna Square and the medina. Tonight you
can explore the area, watch the circus-like performers and sample some tasty delights at different stalls.

    Day 2: Marrakesh
Today, in Marrakesh, you are free to explore on your own, try your hand at bargaining in the souk, or accompany the tour
leader who will be frequenting some different sites, such as the souk (covered market) and even the Ali ben Youssef
Madrassa or other Koranic Schools, the Koubba Baadiyn, and the Museum of Moroccan Handicrafts. This afternoon you can
explore the Badii & Bahia Palaces and the Saadian Tombs, or spend the afternoon sipping tea on a terrace overlooking the
    square.

    Day 3, 4, & 5: High Atlas Mountains
After breakfast, we will leave for Imlil in the High Atlas Mountains, which should take around 2 hours to reach. Once there,
we'll be gathering some supplies and hiking up to the small village called Armed. This distinctly Berber village is perched on
the side of a mountain overlooking other valleys and Mount Toubkal in the distance.
The next morning, we will be hiking up to the French base camp known as Neltner, where we will eat together with the
company of other world travelers, share some stories, and head to bed for the early morning ascent of Mount Toubkal.
Following the early-morning hike up the mountain (well over 13,000 feet or 4,160 meters), we'll eat lunch back at the base
camp and hike the High Atlas Mountains back down to Armed. We’ll stay the night in the gite and head out the next morning,
feeling a bit sore, but revitalized and replenished.

    Day 6 & 7: Essaouira
If you think the journey is nearly over, don't count on it. Following our summit of Mount Toubkal, we'll be heading to the
wonderful beach town of Essaouira, known as the wind capital of Africa. Here, you will have the chance to either wind surf or
kite surf in Essaouira. If you have never done it before, don’t worry. You will be able to take an afternoon lesson with an
expert English-speaking instructor for around US $50, including gear. For those who do not want to surf, you can explore the
port, take a boat ride around the isles, enjoy a walk along the beach, take pictures along the ramparts, stroll through the
medina watching the woodcrafters hard at work, or simply relax in the square.

    Day 8: Marrakesh
We will arrive to learn a little more about the History of Marrakesh. So, you'll be able to visit those sites you didn't get to visit
before, or pick up any gifts, carpets, or other souvenirs in the souk before departing.

    Day 9: Depart.   Depart.
