Moroccan Delights This Morocco tour is geared to those who enjoy touring cities, learning about history, customs, and culture. Morocco has four Imperial Cities, which include Fez, Meknes, Rabat, and Marrakesh. You will have an opportunity to visit them all and stay in high-quality establishments along the way. Tour: Day 1: Begin Morocco Tour in Fez In Fez, we will be staying in the old medina, which is a World Heritage site and one of the oldest and still-thriving medieval cities in the world! After lunch, we’ll go shopping for the ingredients of tonight's dinner at the local souk (market) with Chef Lahcen. Then, he'll show you how to whip up one of the best Moroccan meals you’ll ever taste! Day 2: Fez We will spend the day taking a guided tour with our Moroccan guide, Aziz, who will show us what this Imperial City has to offer, such as the Kairouine Mosque, spice market, tanneries and leather market, pottery quarter, henna market, woodcrafters, metal workers, and koranic schools. Day 3: Meknes / Moulay Idriss / Volubilis After spending the morning taking in the sites in Meknes, we will head to the sacred town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, grandson of the prophet Mohammed and first Arab leader of Morocco. The town has an interesting history since non-Muslims weren’t allowed to enter at one time. However, we will be spending the night here! Five minutes away is the ancient Roman City of Volubilis, where we will roam amidst the ruins and watch the sun set. Day 4: Rabat / Sale This afternoon, we will be visiting the Madrassa el Hassan, or El Hassan Koranic School, built under the same dynasty and at the same time as the Bou Inania koranic school in Fez and the Madrassa Ali Ben Youssef in Marrakesh. We can also stop by the pottery market, Oulja, in Sale. Then we’ll make our way to the Chellah Necropolis in Rabat. Day 5: Rabat You have the full day to explore the capital city of Rabat. You can wander around on your own or take a walk through the medina to the Kasbah des Oudayas fortress overlooking the Bouregreg River and Atlantic Ocean. At night you can take a walk around the Hassan Tower and Mohammed V Moausoleum. Day 6: Marrakesh In Marrakesh, we will be staying in a cute, little riad in the old medina, which is a World Heritage Site. You have the afternoon to wander the medina or visit the Menara gardens or the Koutoubia Mosque. Tonight you can go to the lively Jemaa el Fna Square to watch the performers and sample some tasty delights at different stalls. Day 7: Marrakesh You have a full day here in Marrakesh, a truly captivating city. Today you are free to explore on your own, try your hand at bargaining in the souk, or accompany the tour leader this morning, who will be walking through the souk (covered market) to the Ali ben Youssef Madrassa (Koranic school), the Koubba Baadiyn, and the Museum of Moroccan Handicrafts. This afternoon you can explore the Badii & Bahia Palaces and the Saadian Tombs, or spend the afternoon sipping tea on a terrace overlooking the square. Day 8: Marrakesh. Depart. |
