Riad Noga - At a Glance (Morocco)  2006 Review

Take a pair of historic riads, gut them, refurbish them with Moroccan objets d'art, mix with local labourers,
coat in ‘tadlakt’ glazing, add a pool and what have you got? The Riad Noga.

A dream recipe indeed, but Franco-German owner Gabriele Noack-Spaeth has managed to produce a
simply delicious result. The combination of Marrakech exotica (palm trees, vaulted ceilings, handcrafted
doors, resident parrot) and European efficiency (not the case in all riads) makes it a safe and comfortable
choice. By connecting 3 adjacent houses, they have found space for a lovely courtyard in one and a small
pool in the other. The only hiccough may be locating the riad down a small alley; but once inside, just
immerse in cool water and cook slowly on the roof terrace.

Those with a larger appetite, incidentally, can rent the whole house (sleeping 14) along with its 9 well-
    trained staff.

    Highs
A tightly-run efficiency and a host of relaxing features come as welcome relief after the chaos of the city
The pool, though small, is very refreshing, and a rarity among Marrakech riads
Gaby, her staff and the pets make you feel quite at home

    Lows:
Like most riads, it lacks some privacy
Some bedrooms are on the small side
Not for those seeking a totally laid-back atmosphere
It gets booked early, and there's a (preferred) 3-night minimum stay

Grosvenor House Dubai (UEA) 2006 Review
    "Me encantó el Grosvenor House"
    Jan 27, 2006

Fui a este hotel con algunos amigos para Fin de
Año y ha sido el mejor hotel en el que me he
    alojado.

El personal de este hotel es increíble, se
esfuerzan de verdad por hacer tu estancia
    agradable.

    podemos esperar a volver!

M Plaza Hotel - Accra  (Ghana) 2006 Review
"The Great, The Below Average, and the Truly Ugly"
    McKinney, Texas  Jun 14, 2006

As a meeting planner, I try to do my research on a property before booking a group. In researching the M
Plaza Hote, I read the mixed reviews on Trip Advisor and also spoke with friends from Accra before making
the decision to book our group into this hotel. Upon our arrival at the airport, we were met by very friendly
and capable staff who assisted us in our transfer to the hotel. The M Plaza Hotel staff qualify as great. They
continually assisted us in our seminar - from meeting planning, food selection, sightseeing, and medical
assistance for sick attendees. The staff was continually cheerful and provided world class service.

While the staff was truly great - most other aspects of the hotel were well below standard. My first room
was very dirty and the bathroom was covered in mold and mildew. The windows did not close (hence
mosquitos and the chance of malaria), the curtains did not fully close, the lights did not work, etcetera. I had
to insist on being moved the next day as the front desk didn't find fault with my room. The second room
while better, still was only mediocre.

The hotel does have a pool, however it only had six lounge chairs during our stay. If you want to lay in the
sun, you had to get there mighty early to beat other people who have the same idea. The pool was missing
many pieces of tile, so the chance of getting a scrape or cut while poolside was pretty high.

The hotel offers a buffet breakfast that was also barely average. If you like stale breakfast breads and liver
for breakfast, then you will be quite happy. Otherwise, you might want to consider supplementing what they
offer by maintaining some foods in your room refrigerator. The main dining restaurant, serving lunch and
dinner, was another story. I found that all of the meals eaten there were of good standard, quality, and
taste. The price is also very reasonable.

The location of the hotel is in a fairly nice residential area that houses many embassies, however it is not
centrally located to the city center. In order to go to restaurants outside of the hotel or do any sightseeing or
shopping, it involves a taxi ride of at least 30 minutes each way. I personally don't see this as a negative,
just a point of information for those who like to be in the thick of things.

One final piece of advice. Don't be fooled by the advertisement that the hotel serves many heads of state.
While this is true, the area where heads of states of housed is in a totally separate building from the
"masses". This building is in much better condition and the furniture in the rooms is newer and much better
quality. If you want a good room, pay the extra funds and book into the annex or better yet - choose another
    hotel.

Labadi Beach Hotel - Accra (Ghana) 2007
    Review

    "What a rip-off; highly overrated"
    MomfromUS, Seattle  Apr 12, 2007

We really did not like this place.
I was visiting my son, who is doing study abroad
at the University of Ghana, and I was nervous
about coming, so tried to book the most
    comfortable place I could find.
Check in was EXTREMELY unfriendly and they
would not even acknowledge our presence at the
    desk.
Room, which was $230 per night, was MOLDY
and the carpet filthy. Also the hall and room really
stunk. I asked if this was the nicest room and it
seemed like they had no idea what I was talking
    about.
Pool is set before a series of lagoons which are
shallow stagnant water, and seemed like the
    perfect place for breeding mosquitoes.
Beach behind a fence, but it was a very dirty
beach and I would not consider swimming there.
We had to wait 5 hours to check in (we arrived
early, around 10:30) and we sat and had lunch
outside -- flies everywhere, covering our glasses
    of coke.
Surly service. Couldn't wait to check out of this
place. Tiny tv, inconveniently situated, I hated it
    here.
We checked out and went to the Golden Tulip,
then found our favorite, the La Palm, next door.
    Night and day experience.
