Emirates 2006 Review
Taken on 25 December 2006 from Manchester, England (Ringway International Airport) - MAN to
Johannesburg (Grand Central Airport) – GCJ
The flight's were on time. The on board entertainment was excellent huge selection of films, games, tv
programs etc. The food was good quality. The only negative points on the flights were the staff - on all the
flights it appeared that they did not want to be there. They were of various nationalities and it was apparent
on 1 flight that they were getting on pretty badly. Overall though a good experience.

Taken on 8 February 2007 from Kuwait - KWI
to Dubai - DXB
Outbound Kuwait-Dubai: I complained to the
attendant that the sealed cutlery was dirty
They replaced it with sealed Dirty cutlery.
Well this went on & on - in total, I was given 4
sets of dirty cutlery.
To top it off an attendant collecting trays stopped
to collect my yet to be started meal and when I told
her that I could not eat because I had gotten 4 sets
of Dirty cutlery & was still waiting for 'clean'
cutlery, this attendant told me "So? Eat, I have to
collect trays and not worry about cutlery".
Inbound Dubai-Kuwait: After the meal, with the
tray still on the table and a full 20 minutes before
the seat-belt-sign could be turned on prior to
landing in Kuwait, I requeted for a cup of coffee
(since no tea/coffee) was offered with the meal.
The attendant replied that there was no time and
that they don't cater to coffee/tea on this sector.
When I asked as to why every tray had a
coffee/tea cup, I was told that this happens
because the airline wants the tray to look full.
Regretfully I fly this airline on this sector only due
to the fact that their timings & rates are suitable to
me.
Thankfully, I will never use them on any other
sector.

Kenya Airways 2006 Review
Worst airline I have ever flown in
Name: Sanjay P
Gender: Male
City: Mumbai
State: Maharashtra
Zip Code: 400055
Country: India
Decided to take Kenya Airways to Uganda as I had a 10 hour layover in Dubai if I had gone with Emirates.
Turned out to be the worst decision in my flying life and I do fly a lot. The Kenya Airways flight out of
Mumbai was cancelled and the passengers were informed about it only after 1 hour past the flights
scheduled departure.
The ground crew and the check in desk was chaos and there was no correct information regarding the
options that we had.
The passengers including me had to literally fight with the ground staff to get ourselves booked into a hotel.
The ones who made the most noise were served the fastest.
The Kenyan lady in charge of operations at Mumbai was downright rude when questioned about the lack of
information. All this took place even before I boarded the flight.
The actual flight wasn’t any better.
The crew was rude and the service appaling to say the least.
There were not enough blankets or pillows and the in-flight entertainment system: it wasnt there.
I was in for more trouble on my journey back to Mumbai from Kampala. The flight from Nairobi to Mumbai was
delayed by 5 hours.
There was no information given out to passengers and the staff there was rude too, not unlike some of the
ticket clerks we have at Mumbai railway stations.
Once I landed in Mumbai, I swore I would never ever travel with Kenya Airways again even if it meant a 24
hour layover.
Taken on 16 February 2007 from ICN (Seoul
Incheon International Airport) to Hong Ko
(Kai-Tak International Airport) - HKG
This was my first flight with Thai Airways.
The check-in was polite and fast. At Seoul-
Incheon, THAI uses the Singapore Airlines
lounges. It was decent.
The seats were okay. It was big and roomy, but
old style seats.
The in flight entertainment was dated, but it was
OK.
Food was all right. The service was okay. Overall,
it wasn't a bad experience.
I would definitely continue to use Thai Airways
International whenever I get the chance to in the
future.
Oh, at Hong Kong, THAI has their own lounge. It
was very small, but the set up was very modern
and comfortable. It was also really clean. I love the
glass feeling. It felt futuristic.
They used the Cathay Pacific staff for ground
crew, and surprisingly, the check in agent and
boarding agent were very patient and polite. Also,
the bags came out on time, good and sound.

South African 2007 Review
Taken in 2007 from Cape Town (D.F. Malan) - CPT to London, England (Heathrow Airport) - LHR
Aboard their new A340-600 aircraft, which now serves the Cape Town - London - Cape Town route
(SA221/220). Clean and quiet aircraft, the 33" legroom is wonderful, and the seats recline fantastically and
are very comfortable to sleep in. Not a big sleeper myself, the seats and legroom allowed me to at least doze
comfortably for a while through the night.
The Cabin Crew were faultless, exceptionally smart and well presented, with lovely smiles and outstandting
courtesy. A pleasure to be treated so well! The food was above average, and the modern aircraft lavatories
were very smart, especially with all the creams and lotions they provide in them, coupled with new mirror
lighting.
In-Flight Entertainment is fantastic, with each seat equipped with personal touch screen large TV's with a
large selection of films, TV shows, music and games all on demand.
A fantastically smooth landing into Heathrow, and a real pleasure to experience such a lovely flight to end
the holiday. I fly regularly with South African Airways, and never regret it at all. I wholly recommend the
airline above it's competitors of British Airways and Virgin Atlantic; South African Airways are a truly
exceptional airline and a tribute and wonderful reflection of South Africa itself.

Delta 2007 Review
Taken on 31 May 2007 from Dallas/Fort Worth, TX (Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport) - DFW to Salt Lake
City, UT (Salt Lake City International Airport) - SLC
Very nice flight to Salt Lake City on what appeared to be a nearly new 737-800 with leather seats and a
modern entertainment system. Very comfortable and smooth trip. We landed in Salt Lake 5 minutes late.
Return flight was on a 50 passenger regional jet. There was some confusion about loading the plane--we
were marched out to the plane and then sent back to do an electrical problem. But the problem was fixed in
only about 20 minutes and the plane arrived only 10 minutes late. It was certainly a more crampled plane, but
not too bad. The weather was bad in Salt Lake City and for about one half the trip, but the flight was only a
little bumpy.
Overall, I thought the trip was quite good.

Taken on 30 March 2007 from London, England (Heathrow Airport) - LHR to Cleveland, OH (Cleveland-
Hopkins International Airport) - CLE
These were KLM/Northwest partner flights from London Heathrow to Amsterdam, Amsterdam - Detroit and
Detroit - Cleveland.
Everything was fine until we arrived in Detroit at about 18.00 hours. Immigration was fast and friendly and
we immediately checked the departures board and fond that our Northwest flight to Cleveland at 21.00
hours was on time and the departure gate number was shown.
About an hour before boarding we went to the departure gate and were told our flight had been cancelled.
No other explanation and we were then sent to the opposite end of the airport to try and get onto another
flight.
By the time we reached the desk there was a long queue and we had to wait nearly an hour before
reaching the desk, only to be told that the next available flight to Cleveland would be around 4.30 the next
afternoon. The reason we went to Cleveland was so my wife could attend my daughters wedding shower
which was to take place the next morning, which we would obviously now miss. The friendly lady behind
the desk did her utmost to get us there on time, by booking us on a flight to Columbus, phoning my daughter
who left on a two hour drive to fetch us from Columbus Airport. We finally reached Cleveland at about 2.30
in the morning utterly exhausted after being awake for 26 hours. I really wonder if anyone from the Airlines
actually cares about the hassles they put their customers through. We have been offered $150 p.p. off our
next purchase which to me is no real compensation for the problems caused. By the way our luggage was
delivered three days later, as it was left in Detroit when we were forced to fly to Columbus.

ReviewTaken in January 2006 from Bangkok (Don
Muang International Airport) - BKK to Guangzhou
(Canton) (Baiyun) - CAN
We flew Ethiopian Airlines return trip from
Bangkok to Guangzhou, China on holiday.
We had to take a connecting flight to Bangkok.
Right up to boarding the flight to Bangkok I was on
the tarmac at the foot of the steps on my cell
phone and in panic, speaking to Ethiopian Airlines
office in Bangkok.
The airline had given our seats away even though
we had booked and confirmed the booking several
days earlier: it took us three days of almost non-
stop calling to get the phone answered at the
Ethiopian Airlines office in Bangkok that first time.
As a result, when we finally spoke to the lady she
gave us her name, excused herself that she was
working ALONE in the front office and also having
to take calls, and said as a result we would NOT
need to phone again to reconfirm the ticket.
As it turned out, I decided to make double sure and
tried calling the day before the flight, seeing as we
had first to fly to Bangkok and it would be a
disaster if our seats were not held in fact. I finally
got through after calling all day, but whilst on the
airport bus to the connecting flight aircraft itself.
No, our reservation was not confirmed, and there
were no seats available!
I explained the situation to the lady, a different one
from before, and gave her the name of the first
lady who had promised our seats would be held.
On arrival at Bangkok after a very nervous flight
where we were wondering if we would be
stranded, I phoned her again. She said she had
arranged something and we could fly.
With that final relief, our ordeal was not over. The
check in at Bangkok took a long time, with large
queues and language problems between
passengers and staff. We took off about two
hours late if my memory serves me correct, which
also caused us difficulties at the other end where
we had to take a taxi instead of public transport
due to the late hour.
The flight itself was a real disappointment, my
wife who has never flown on an African aircraft
was unfortunately left with a very bad impression.
The seats, headrests, fold out tables were very
very dirty, with coffee or tea stains, used tissues,
and grease from previous passengers. The flight
had come from Ethiopia and obviously they had
not cleaned up the seats. They could at least have
given the table trays a wipe down, replaced the
head rest papers, and removed tissues and
plastic from previous meals stuffed into the
pockets on the seats in front.
I called the steward, who said that he could do
nothing as they were too busy on this short flight,
but could we find another seat. There were a few
other empty seats, not many, but also in the same
messy condition, so we stayed put.
On the return trip, we had our little hand luggage
and waited in line with a check in that took over an
hour in the queue. Others in the queue, with the
exception of two Chinese, had not hand luggage
with them, but enormous BALES, sometimes even
several. These are the types of things you would
see people send by cargo, but these passengers
were all sending them as checked in luggage!
This appears to be normal, as the Chinese airport
staff had a special "packaging" machine to help tie
up these big bales so they would not fall apart.
The check in staff also found it normal. Clearly
these are traders, but using unorthodox and one
would think expensive means of sending their
cargo.
On the aircraft itself, when we were finally on
board (it left very late again, and had even
disappeared off the television screen to be
replaced by another plane), we had to struggle to
get to our seats. The aircraft was full of these
traders, all returning to Africa laden with goods
which they had apparently "smuggled" onto the
aircraft.
Ladies had numerous hand bags around their
necks, all stuffed with items such as mobile
phones. Around their necks, as many chains and
other items as they could carry. Their pockets
were stuffed, they wore large dresses over all of
this so that they simply appeared as obese, whilst
in reality they were of normal body size.
This is not one trader I'm talking of, but at least 50
doing the same thing. Men did not seem to be so
laden, since they could not hide things under their
dresses, but some were clearly part of a group
which included all women. They proceeded to try
and stuff these items, including over-sized cases
that should not even make it to the aircraft as hand
luggage, into the overhead lockers.
Needless to say, there was not enough space in
all the lockers and many could not close. We felt
pity for the cabin crew who were trying to
arrange order out of chaos and simply had to give
up. We were still taxiing to the runway and
actually taking off before the last of the
passengers had seated.
This was our experience as witnessed by myself
and several others, including photographs we
took in the cabin in bewilderment. In closing, let me
say that although it would have been nice if the
cabin crew had found time to at least hastily wipe
down tables for new passenger, and clear away
the rubbish, we pity the crew.
They are clearly overwhelmed, perhaps
understaffed, and having very difficult
passengers to contend with. The cabin crew are
very smartly dressed, perhaps the nicest uniforms
of any airline, very polite and gentle. I cannot fault
or blame the cabin crew. But I recount this
experience because I think unless you are a
trader or smuggler looking to carry excess
baggage on board, and are not looking for a
comfortable and peaceful flight, you should not fly
Ethiopian Airlines economy. I cannot speak for
"Cloud Nine" which is the first class, nor did I
check the price of those tickets. But it seems that
economy class on other airlines would get a better
overall value given that our experience does not
seem to be unique, but a routine on this airline, at
least on some of its routes.

Iberia 2007 Review
Taken in 2007 from London, England (Heathrow Airport) - LHR to Santiago de Chile
I had heard such bad reviews of Iberia, that I was not looking forward to the flights. We flew LHR to Madrid,
then Madrid to Santiago De Chile. All flights were on time.
The flight to Santiago was 13 hours. There's more leg room on the Airbus than you get with BA or Virgin.
The food was hot and tasty, and the breakfast was fine. There was a full drinks service, and the galley
was open all flight for any drinks you wanted or a small sandwich.
The cabin crew were all pleasant and spoke clear English. I was able to sleep on the flight. The onboard
movie was OK, no seat back screen, but you don't always get that anyway on other airlines.
Our luggage arrived safe and sound in Chile.
All I can say is give Iberia a go, they are generally cheaper than other airlines for South America, and the
service is good. I will fly with them again.
